Diane R. Smith
Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Professor of Geosciences
Diane Smith completed her undergraduate education at Carleton College with a major in geology. She then attended Rice University, where she earned her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in geology. Smith became a faculty member in the geosciences department at Trinity University in 1984. She has taught introductory courses in physical geology and volcanology and upper division courses in earth materials and geochemistry. Her research interests are in igneous petrology and geochemistry. Smith served as department chair from 1998 to 2004, when she was appointed Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs for Budget and Research. In this position, she oversees sponsored research, faculty development programs, capital equipment and improvement projects, support for student research, assessment, and coordinates several lectures series.
